The Power Of Turmeric...

Turmeric (Circuma longa), a perennial herb long celebrated for it’s culinary purposes as a spice, is emerging in modern medicine as a therapeutic addition to the prevention and treatment of certain ailments plaguing societies throughout the world. The plant is a member of the ginger family and it’s root and rhizome are ground into powder and utilized for it’s various purposes.

Turmeric’s active component, circumin, has been for centuries and is currently being prescribed in Eastern medicine as a potent remedy for liver disorders, rheumatism, diabetic wounds, runny nose, cough, sinusitis and diseases associated with abdominal pain. Modern research and science is discovering curcumin’s benefits against cancer as its ability to suppress the proliferation of tumor cells and the inhibition of harmful molecules and enzymes is established. Certain studies have even related this herb to the inhibition of cancer metastasis (the capability of cancer to spread to different, unaffected parts of the body). Turmeric is also recognized as having antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics. As more research and time is invested in further exploring this plant, turmeric may be incorporated more frequently in modern medical practices.
